SALINA STREET CHURCH NARRATIVE
Salina Street Church was organized in 2007 when a group of Christians in Austin, Texas decided to plant a church in East Austin. Plans were made to relocate to the community, and once a few families had moved the church began meeting on every other Friday night to study the Bible, pray as a group, and to encourage one another.
The goal of the church is to produce people who are Christlike ('disciples'). We will seek to do this by endeavoring to live, think, and act consistently with the ideas laid out in the Bible. Believing that community is an important aspect of Christianity, we will seek to share these goals with other members of the church; believing that Christianity is truth, we will seek to share the message of Christianity with the greater community.
Salina Street Church began Sunday morning meetings on October 7th, 2007. Meetings have been held in the house of a church leader, but will be transferred to a rented space in the community as appropriate space is located. Additional activities of the church include a more intensive teaching time intended to prepare specific persons for future church leadership. Individually, members of the church are encouraging one another to integrate to the neighborhood, both by developing relationships with neighbors and also through informal community service.
Future years will hopefully bear these goals out with new members of the church living lives that are Christlike and significant to carrying the love of God to the community. The church is not directly affiliated with any larger network or external authority structure, but is linked through active involvement and accountability to members and leaders of several other local churches (including First Evangelical Free Church of Austin, High Pointe Baptist Church, and Grace Covenant Church).
Founding leadership is handled by leaders who have formal and informal training in Christian ministry (including schooling at Moody Bible Institute and Columbia Bible College).
