about us
We are a small church meeting in East Austin. The goal of the church is to produce people who are Christlike–or, in other words, disciples. We seek to do this by endeavoring to live, think, and act consistently with the ideas laid out in the Bible.
Believing that community is an important aspect of Christianity, we will seek to share these goals with other members of the church; believing that Christianity is truth, we will seek to share the message of Christianity with the greater community.
Individually, members of the church are encouraging one another to integrate into the neighborhood, both by developing relationships with neighbors and also through informal community service. Future years will hopefully bear these goals out with new members of the church living lives that are Christlike and significant to carrying the love of God to the community.
There are three elders at Salina, and they share teaching and spiritual leadership responsibilities. We also recently nominated our first deacon, whose job is to look after the general welfare of the the church.
Salina Street Church began in 2007 when a group of Christians decided to plant a church in East Austin. Plans were made to relocate to the community and, once a few families had moved the church, we began meeting every other Friday night to study the Bible, pray as a group, and to encourage one another.
A few months later, Salina began meeting on Sunday morning meetings in one of our elder’s houses. Since then, the Salina community has seen the addition of many new members, an elder, and, recently, a deacon. We’ve also added a lot of kiddos to the crowd–as a group, we’re far from reproductively challenged.
Beginning on February 6, 2010, Salina started having Sunday services at Metz Recreation Center, and we’re excited about the changes that come with this new location. We hope that, as our church evolves, we will have many new opportunities to serve one another, to grow together as a community, and to be part of the neighborhood in which we meet.
